Amazon Prime Membership in India (2026): Price, Plans, Benefits and Is It Worth It?

The short answer
Amazon Prime in India now comes in three tiers: Prime Shopping Edition at ₹399 a year, Prime Lite at ₹799 a year, and full Prime at ₹1,499 a year or ₹299 a month. If you shop on Amazon a few times a month and also watch Prime Video or listen to Amazon Music, the full ₹1,499 annual plan is the best value; if you only want faster free delivery, Prime Shopping Edition is the cheapest way to get it.
How much is Amazon Prime in India in 2026?
Amazon confirmed the three-tier structure in its May 2026 Prime Day announcement. The monthly option for full Prime is listed on Amazon.in.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime Shopping Edition | ₹399 | Yearly | Shipping and shopping benefits only |
| Prime Lite | ₹799 | Yearly | Shopping benefits plus limited Prime Video |
| Prime (annual) | ₹1,499 | Yearly | Full shopping and entertainment benefits |
| Prime (monthly) | ₹299 | Monthly | Same benefits as annual Prime |
Prices as of October 2026. Amazon can change prices at any time, so confirm on amazon.in/prime before you pay. A third-party snapshot from August 2026 showed the Shopping Edition's ₹399 price displayed against a struck-through ₹499.
What are the benefits of each Prime plan?
Prime Shopping Edition (₹399/year)
Amazon describes this plan as tailored for customers who only want shipping and shopping benefits. It does not include any digital or entertainment benefits, such as Prime Video or Amazon Music.
You get the core Prime shopping perks: free fast delivery on eligible items, Prime-only deals and early access to sales.
Prime Lite (₹799/year)
Prime Lite gives full shopping benefits plus limited Prime Video. According to a third-party breakdown of the Amazon.in plans page, the Prime Video in Prime Lite is:
- With ads.
- On one device at a time.
- In HD (720p) rather than 4K.
Prime Lite does not include Amazon Music, Prime Reading or gaming benefits, and you cannot buy the ad-free Prime Video add-on without upgrading to full Prime.
Prime (₹1,499/year or ₹299/month)
Full Prime includes all shopping and entertainment benefits. Per the same breakdown, that means:
- Prime Video on up to five devices, including two TVs, at up to 4K, with an option to pay for ad-free viewing.
- Amazon Music for Prime members.
- Prime Reading – a rotating selection of free Kindle ebooks.
- Amazon Luna PC games.
- All delivery and shopping benefits.
From Amazon's own Prime Day 2026 announcement, Prime member benefits include:
- Free unlimited Same-Day delivery on 10 lakh products.
- Next-Day delivery on 40 lakh products.
- 4-hour delivery on more than 40,000 products.
- Exclusive Amazon Now offers.
- 5% cashback on Amazon.in with the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card.
Amazon's release does not break down exactly which of these apply to each tier, so check eligibility on the plan page before relying on a specific delivery speed in your pin code.

Is the monthly Prime plan worth it?
Only for short-term use. The ₹299 monthly plan has the same benefits as the ₹1,499 annual plan, but twelve monthly payments add up to ₹3,588 – about ₹2,089 more than paying once for the year.
The monthly plan makes sense if:
- You only want Prime for one festive sale season.
- You want to binge one Prime Video series and cancel.
- You are not sure whether you will use Prime enough to justify a year.
Otherwise, the annual plan is the clear winner on value: ₹1,499 works out to about ₹125 a month.
Is Amazon Prime worth it in India?
It depends on how you use Amazon. A practical way to decide:
Full Prime (₹1,499) is likely worth it if you:
- Order from Amazon several times a month and value same-day or next-day delivery.
- Watch Prime Video regularly, especially on a TV or in 4K.
- Would otherwise pay for a separate music streaming service.
- Plan to use Alexa+ after its free Early Access ends – Amazon says it will remain free for Prime members, while non-Prime users will pay ₹2,000 a month.
- Shop heavily during Prime Day and the Great Indian Festival.
Prime Lite (₹799) fits if you:
- Shop regularly and want some Prime Video, but are happy with ads and one screen at HD.
Prime Shopping Edition (₹399) fits if you:
- Only care about free, fast delivery and Prime deals.
- Already pay for other streaming services.
Skip Prime entirely if you:
- Order from Amazon only occasionally and can meet free-delivery thresholds without it.
Editor's tip: Before paying for Prime, check your bank and telecom plans. Some credit cards and mobile plans in India have bundled Prime or Prime Video as a benefit. Make sure you are not paying twice.
Does Amazon Prime include Alexa+?
Yes – but only full Prime. Amazon launched Alexa+, its generative-AI assistant, in India on 16 September 2026. It is free for everyone during Early Access. After that, Amazon says Alexa+ stays free for Prime members, while Prime Lite, Prime Shopping Edition and non-Prime users would need a standalone ₹2,000-a-month subscription or an upgrade to an eligible Prime plan. For anyone who uses Alexa daily, this alone makes full Prime far cheaper than the alternative.
When is the next Prime Day in India?
Amazon held Prime Day in India in July 2026. Prime Day has historically been a July event in India, but Amazon announces exact dates each year, so watch amazon.in and Amazon's India press site. Prime members also get early access to the Great Indian Festival, Amazon India's festive-season sale.
How to buy, upgrade or cancel Prime in India
To join or upgrade:
- Go to amazon.in/prime or the Prime section of the Amazon app.
- Choose Prime Shopping Edition, Prime Lite or Prime (annual or monthly).
- Pay using a supported method.
Amazon's FAQ says you can upgrade from Shopping Edition to Prime Lite or Prime, and from Prime Lite to Prime, from the same page. Upgrade pricing is shown at checkout.
To cancel: go to Your Account → Prime Membership (sometimes labelled "Manage Membership") and choose to end your membership. Refund eligibility depends on how much you have used your benefits; Amazon explains the terms on its Prime help pages.
For the technically curious: how do Prime delivery promises work?
Amazon's Same-Day and 4-hour delivery promises depend on inventory placement as much as on transport. The general approach in modern e-commerce logistics is:
- Demand forecasting. Machine learning models predict what people in each area are likely to order, using past sales, seasonality and events such as festivals.
- Inventory placement. Fast-moving products are stocked in fulfilment centres and smaller delivery stations close to large cities, so they are physically near customers before anyone orders.
- Pin-code promises. When you view a product, the system checks stock near your pin code, cut-off times and carrier capacity to calculate the delivery promise you see.
- Routing. Delivery routes are optimised to group nearby orders.
That is why Same-Day and 4-hour options vary by city and pin code, and why the same product may show different delivery times for different users. Amazon's figures – Same-Day on 10 lakh products and 4-hour delivery on more than 40,000 products – reflect how much inventory it pre-positions for fast delivery.
Common Prime mistakes to avoid in India
A few practical pitfalls come up again and again:
- Paying monthly for a whole year. If you keep the ₹299 monthly plan running for twelve months, you pay roughly ₹2,089 more than the annual plan.
- Assuming Prime Lite includes everything. Prime Lite has no Amazon Music, no Prime Reading and only ad-supported, single-device HD Prime Video.
- Forgetting about auto-renewal. Prime renews automatically. If you joined only for a sale, set a reminder to review it before the renewal date.
- Expecting the same delivery speed everywhere. Same-Day and 4-hour delivery depend on your pin code and the item. Check the delivery promise on the product page before ordering something urgent.
- Missing the Alexa+ link. If your household uses Alexa every day, remember that only full Prime keeps Alexa+ free after Early Access; Prime Lite and Shopping Edition do not.
Editor's tip: Check the Prime Membership page in your account a week before renewal. It shows your plan, the renewal date and the price you will be charged, so you can switch tiers before the money leaves your account.
